NIS America has announced the 9-disc Complete Series Blu-ray release of Cardcaptor Sakura (1998-2000), the hit 70-episode Madhouse-produced anime series from director Morio Asaka. The Premium Edition set includes a fully illustrated 76-page hardcover art book and a collectible slipcase, and arrives on Blu-ray on August 5th.

Synopsis: Ten-year-old Sakura lives a pretty normal life with her older brother, Toya, and widowed father, Fujitaka. At least she did, until the day she returned home from school to discover a glowing book in her father's study. After opening the book and releasing the cards within, Sakura is tasked with collecting each of these magical cards, while trying to live the life of a normal fourth grader. In the monumental task of collecting all the cards, Sakura must rely on her friends and family, and decide what she finds most important in life.

Cardcaptor Sakura features series episodes 1-70 in 1080p with a lossless audio presentation of the original Japanese language mix with English subtitles, as well as a bonus English Dub monaural track. (Note: according to the official press release, subtitles on the Blu-ray discs cannot be turned off. No word yet as to whether that applies when viewing the series with the English-language mix.)

Special features and bonus items include:

Clean Opening Animations (2)
Clean Ending Animations (3)
Premium Box
76-page Hardcover Art Book (approx. 5.75" x 7.5"), complete with Tomoyo's diary of Sakura's adventure and full color character illustrations

The good news is its fully uncut in its original form.
The bad news is in two parts:
The first being that the English dub for some reason is only mono, not even stereo which you'd think would be the bare minimum
The second is the price, $250 (yes you read that right, it wasn't a stroke brain induced error) though RightStuff have it for pre-order for $178.99 atm which is probably the best deal for it.

I can't imagine Manga releasing the Blu-Ray over here so unless an Australian release appears & is cheaper there aint many choices for it on Blu-Ray
