Remember seeing a few of the Troma films like Toxic Avenger when I was a teen - totally dire films

Mortal Kombat Annihilation: earns special bonus points for being the greatest deterioration in quality between an original and its sequel.

Toxic Avenger 4, Citizen Toxie: I'll admit to not watching the first 3. And I'm not going to. This one deserves special merit because like many movies and unlike the other 3, the creators were trying to make it deliberately bad to be funny (or does that describe Scary Movie as well? I think they were just being deliberately ucky). I guess they tried way too hard. They succeeded in making it deliberately bad, at least. Really, really bad.

Martal Kombat was a very rushed production... Believe it came out in about 1999 (when i was in my last year of high school) Checking the internet at that time revealed the ONLY reason the movie even got produced was the fact that the director's son wanted a 2nd movie Laughing
The coriography wasn't too bad through, but i agree that on that basis alone it wasn't able to make up for lack of acting ability and poor plot / writing...

As for the Toxic Avenger movies. They're created by an independant company called Troma and they specialise in BAD movies. It's actually what they aim for and the company have a massive cult following because of it.

I'd give it a 4-way tie:

Mortal Kombat Annihilation: earns special bonus points for being the greatest deterioration in quality between an original and its sequel. That whole thing was just a lame attempt to pander to the people who had just been playing the Mortal Kombat 3 game that was then recent. And they tried to arbitrarily throw in every last damn character that appeared in the game. Too bad they didn't throw in a plot or decent acting or a decent story. It was all one long stupid pointless CGI clip.

Rock'n Roll High School: I threw up after watching most of this movie. I admit I didn't see the very end, though I hear they blew up the school. It wasn't gross. It was just that bad. And yes, throwing up was a direct result of watching the movie. I was fine before and I was fine after.

Scary Movie: The only time I ever actually played on a movie theater screen with a laser pointer. Though I was the only one in there. I think. Maybe there was one other person (which made it all the more obvious who was the one doing it). Believe me, this turkey deserved worse than a red dot going up people's noses. How it ended up getting 3 sequels is beyond me. Fortunately, I was able to muster the willpower not to watch the sequels (like that took much effort). Unfortunately, I only learned later that walking out early and demanding your money back is something you're actually allowed to do. This one earns a special award for having the greatest deterioration in apparent quality between the theatrical trailer and the actual movie. Without a doubt the most misleading trailer ever made.

For a movie where they succeeded in making it funny by deliberately making it bad, watch the Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. And possibly Plan 9 From Outer Space, but it's questionable whether that was deliberate. Ed Wood was a strange man but he didn't make a lot of things dumb on purpose. (But the effect is the same - as a result, it's not a tenth as bad as people say it is.)

IMHO there are tons of good hindi films! have you seen the film about cricket - lagaan?

and for sure visual pleasure - monsoon wedding

for laughs (and romance, well they can't help have a bit of romance in hindi films) hum tum

bollywood is often slagged off - I've watched a few because of Mhairi saying they were good. I appreciate a few of the films - sure there are many that bore the arse of me but you can't knock their vibe.

Worst Film EVAR has to be Ninth Gate -- it has one 20 second moment of genius surrounded by interminable outpourings of complete and utter testes.

The LOTR books and the Hobbit are good - I know some of the poetry and song can be a bit much for most peeps.

The films were alright and were reasonably enjoyable and I can appreciate how hard it was to film something of that scale and make it so commercially successful.

It depends what you're in to.

Eh, I prefer books over pretty much anything else so I would be alright reading them, it's just that lately I haven't read that much at all. And while I did like the action scenes in LOTR I thought the plot was too heavy.

That's just another weird thing about me though, I love a really complecated plot in books, tv shows, anime, manga what ever, but not films. With films if it goes above the standerd Disney/Pixar plot I tend to get bored. I don't know... :dizzy:

Arg - if you found the LotR films too long tiring, I wouldn't bother with the books!!!
I really quite enjoyed the films (and can't fathom that peeps would be bored - unless sword and sorcery fantasy was reeely not their thing) - but the books are a challenge of attention-stamina for most people (I know I never got through them LOL)!
