oh, the garden centre near me are selling hundreds of them. Those places are quite errie at the moment, coffin dodgers as far as the eye can see. Slow moving, mouths open (and half of them drooling) it is like something from a zombie film.

I lack spots in the garden that get direct sun due to an abundance of trees, hence using hanging baskests, pots and grow bags (the sunnyist place is our patio, and ontop of a short wall behind the garage).

i have run out of windows to grow on and the plants are still growing (and i need to start making room for my beans

My outdoor tomatoes seem to be ok (and i'm risking frost, if i see on the fordcast we will have frost i'm sure i will think of something

Great news! Very Happy

what you see circled in red are flower buds. They are still small but growing fast. about a third of my plants now have tiny groups of buds (trusses) forming. The plant in the pic actually has 4 trusses appearing. The problem is that tomatoe plants need to be in their final positions before the flowers open (for some reason) thus i need to plant alot more of them out very soon, probably next week end.

Have you thought how'll you eat them -

eat them fresh off the vine / straight into your mouth?

grill them and have them with a nice fry-up?

cut and slice them, salt them?

mash them, season them, make a dip?

season/oil them as part of a salad?

(I'm hungry)

I'll eat them

Off the vine

Do what river cottage bloke does (cut in half, lightly oil add garlic and cook for 1hr before passing it through a cive to make a rich tomatoe sauce which can be used in many recipies)

In sandwiches

with cheese on toast

to make soup

To 'sun dry' in a warm oven

and many many more ways that i just can't be bothered to type

P.S

Well, my fater was in the garden yesterday. He thought it would be a ggod idea to pile more dirt mear my tomatoes. So mush that the lower leaves were on the ground and have now been eaten by slugs. He always amazes me Surprised , and for someone who has a degree in botany to be soo clueless about plants and pests Evil or Very Mad

On a happier note the first tomatoe flower is about to open on one of my currently indoor plants.

And finally as today is gunna be sunny i have decided, i have no space left inside so i'm planting out nearly all my toms today. Very Happy

Well I spent all afternoon in the garden today. :dizzy: (i'm nackered)

I've planted out 3 dwarf tomato plants in a pot that is on my patio.

I then placed 3 grow bags along the top of a wall behing my garage (there is a wall and thin strip of gravel behind the garage) and planted out 9 plants. I put canes in between each bag. I then ran string along, weaving in and out of the plants between the cains (this holds them without needing to tie each plant to a seperate cane).
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu4/kylej64/Tomatoplantout06.jpg

I then began to dig up the soil below the wall. It is a thin layer of soil full of rocks. First I needed to take out the weeds of which there were loads.
I then dug out top soil from a bare patch in the front garden, wheeled it to the back, mixed in plenty of manure. This I then mixed with the small amount of soil at the base of the wall ready for the bean plants. (I should leave this for at least a few weeks before planting but what the h*ll) I planted out 2 of the 7 french bean plants while i was there.
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu4/kylej64/digbeans01.jpg

I know I should wait till after the last frost but i'm running out of space in the house and I think I will risk it Razz

I also bought some marigolds seeds which I have started off indoors (they supposidly attrack benificial insects like lady birds and lace-wings which eat greenfly).

I also found some old seeds for basil and i'm giving a few of them a go. (though they were supposed to be used by 2002, but i fugure what harm can it do, if they grow, great, if noy, no big deal) Very Happy

P.S one of the tomato plants I planted out today is about to flower. The green bits have peeled off the flower and you can see the pale flower pettles all curled up. If it wasn't to much of a shock to the plant I might have the first flowers tomorrow. Very Happy

planting some Basil would be cool - making a mini-herb garden would be great.

well, half of the tomatoe plants by that south facing wall are getting too much sun and seem to be a little worse of wear (some will probably die). but i have more in the house that could take their place. I'm also thinking about creating some sort of shelter from the mid day sun for them.
the beans I planted out are doing well
But this weekend has been a scorcher Very Happy

as for eating them, pick , slice add salt, eat sounds quite good. but i'm hoping they will be so good it will literally be, pick, eat Very Happy
