Hmm, I've heard that even after the Freiza arc it's still somewhat good, you disagree?

Well, I've picked up a boxed set of Slayers, Slayers Next, and Slayers Try. Me and my friends have watched through a quarter into Try, and I have to say it's earned it's classic status.

One of my group's picked up Last Exile, which'll probably be the next series after we finish Try.

Been happy with all my last few purchases.

-Higurashi: When they Cry. 8/10 The art style is interesting, but has some "narm"y moments. And the show goes from saccharine to fudge to slasher and back. Though its still a good ride.

-Samurai Champloo. 9/10 -Almost- as good as Cowboy Bebop, would be as good, but a few of the episodes feel a little redundant... Still, a quality show.

-Burst Angel. 7/10 A fun enough ride, though the ending left a lot to be desired.

Finally, someone else has watched Higurashi. Very Happy I loved the contrast between the two types of scene. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai has less of the contrast and more of a consistent mood for the most part, and personally I prefer it a bit more with the whole theme of "fighting fate", though I know alot of people who really liked the first season but hated Kai.

Really like the look of Samurai Shamploo, been meaning to watch it for a while now, I'll have to pick it up sometime.

I watched Steamboy the other day. I thought it was brilliant. It was the first steampunk film I'd seen and I really liked the ideas and devices that where created.

Admittedly I have begun to watch ?Avatar: The Legend of Aang? again. Though not technically anime it is kind of close (close enough that I?m putting it in this thread). It is just easy background viewing while I do other things.

Trying to get round to starting Haruhi season 2 now that my Endless Eight part 1 has turned up I can get through 4 in one go, interestingly (or not maybe) the Endless Eight ones have their own artbox to fit into which is nice I guess, nice that the image wraps around it anyway, not opened it yet to see if the cover is as nice as the vol1 cover (though from the small image on the spine its good for Yuki lovers) now I'm not suggesting that it's got a plastic cover on to make it easy wipe clean for the die hard weirdos but it is a little suspicious as you will see

Recently I've been watching...

  • Nyan Koi: It must truly suck to not only be allergic to cats and live with a cat-fanatic family, but have a love interest that loves cat and be forced to do 100 deeds for cats or else become one! Rating: Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing
  • Kampfer: Though the anime deviates from the anime, it's still hilarious, alot of Yuri subtext to play with! Rating: Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing
  • The Sacred Blacksmith: It's ok, but I'm exactly sure is supposed to be the leading protagonist since the heroine is incopetent as a knight and the hero is rather reserved and not so complient.Rating: Confused Confused Confused
  • Shin Koihime Musou: Otome Ryouran Sangokushi Engi: Though I doubt this is the first season, I still enjoy it. Not as much Yuri subtext, but I just love it's ecchi humor. Rating: Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing
  • Natsu no Arashi! Akinai-chuu: Well I had to watch the original season to learn certain characters can just jump into the past, but it's still funny in it's odd way. Rating: Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

I've recently gotten into a show called Spice and Wolf, about a traveling merchant escorting a pagan wolf goddess abandoned by her former followers back to her homeland. The series foregoes the usual fantasy anime nonsense in favor of focusing on less popular subjects like economics and politics (the main character IS a traveling merchant, after all), although the fantasy elements are still there.

There's very little action; it's a pretty talky series. A good 70% of the average episode is just talking, so it can get rather boring sometimes. Fortunately, it's interesting talking, so it rarely gets TOO boring. Besides, infrequent action makes what little action there is all the more exciting when it finally hits. The two lead characters are interesting and likable and you feel genuinely worried when they're in trouble.

I really don't like the anime art style, and while the art here is pretty standard lazy anime mediocrity the animation is still pretty fluent and detailed; it's slightly above average, so I can bear it. Besides, the story and characters are really what draw you in here. Another problem I have with most anime is that the plot is nonsensical garbage; Spice and Wolf does not have this problem. It has a linear story line that is easy to understand and follow and get into. The fiddle-centric minimalist score is also a high-point; it creates an excellent atmosphere and mood that helps keep you interested.

But the main selling point to me was the wolf goddess, Holo. She's an appealing character just in design alone, with her fuzzy animal ears, bushy tail, and cute violet-and-black dress. I saw a picture of her online promoting the series, and I figured, "Hey, there's a cute wolf girl in it. Sure, I'll give it a chance, but if it's the usual anime garbage, screw it." But I soon found there much more to like about not only the series as a whole, but also about her. The slow, gradual revealing of Holo's backstory and true nature is engaging enough. She's also a pretty well-rounded character; her wolf-like eccentricities make her infinitely amusing, sympathetic, and sometimes even a bit frightening. The series is worth watching almost for her alone.

Spice and Wolf is a pretty good show. I normally don't like anime at all, so coming from me, that means something. I give it:

I went festive with Itsudatte My Santa! if you've seen other stuff from Ken Akamatsu then you won't be surprised to hear its a fun watch with plenty of fan service thrown in as well, as the second episode includes the obligatory go to the beach situation, it cycles back to festiveness by the end though. Pretty much if you liked anything else he's done then you'll probably like this one as well, even if some elements of character design seem to be reused from earlier more well known works.

I'm most of the way through Beck. I Must say I'm really enjoying it, though it is hard to figure out why i am enjoying it so much (I've watched the first 4 dvd's in dub and am about to finish the series in sub as they haven't released it all in the UK yet).

The dub is quite good. The characters are decent and likeable. The animation quality isn't bad. All the parts should make this about a 3.5 out of 5 but for some reason I'm really liking it and have to give it about 4.5 out of 5 and I just can't put my finger onto why.

To sum up, so good you won't even know why.

I've just watched afro samurai

I thought it was very poor. A world where people go round fighting with swords and apparently a very basic level of technology (ye olde Japan) yet there are automatic crossbows, mobile phones and advanced cyborges and androids with lazers. Oh, and before i forget there is also supernatural c**p too. It just seems like they had too many ideas, and rather than pick one, they said "what the hell, lets just mash them all up and see what we get". It my mind it just didn't work. Neutral

I have recently started a series known as Ghost Hunt, it is an enticing watch leaving you wanting to watch more and more. The story is fun and creepy at points. If you like lighthearted supernatural style shows this is for you.

I've been watching a series called Rainbow: nisha rokubou no shichinin (the seven criminals of compound 2 cell 6). It centres around 6 boys aged 16-17, who get put in prison for various crimes. The 6 meet an older boy who soon becomes a big brother to them and now becoming friends all must find out the hardships of prison life (server punishment etc). The anime it's self is very dark and serious, there's 6 episodes subbed so far and i'm finding it very interesting. I'd give it 4 out 5 cat heads at the moment.

I have no time to watch manga and anime at the moment, it makes me become a sadness spirit Crying or Very sad

However, I've got about a trillion boxsets lined up for as soon as I get a minute!

I most recently watched Tank Police, would have been better without all the silly slapstick, methinks!! However, it gains marks for having some lovely catgirls in it!! :moogle:

ATM, I am taking full advantage of Funimation's choice to tackle privacy and enhance sales by putting up whole episodes on Youtube and I still observed all the anime that was on Anime Central and the other one on Propeller before they went bust on SKY and thus taped them for prosperity.

Cowboy Bebop: 5 / 5
Planetes: 5 / 5
Ghost in the Shell: Individual 11 / Laughing Man: 5 / 5
Technolyze: 4.5 / 5
Full Metal Alchemist: 5 / 5
Gunslinger Girl: Il Treatino: 4 / 5
Starship Operators: 4 / 5
Corpse Princess (S1): Under evaluation

Oh well, I gotta admit it takes a lot to displease me but then I have seen and enjoyed:

Tenbatsu Angel Rabbie
Ninja Cadets
