Laughing does my excessive not seem deliberately crazy??

I love limited edition metal cases...

I also have kept all the slight paper summaries that came in the external packaging of my Gatchaman series and put them in with the dvd's because they are so precious....

Right the estimate from the guy in the market was about ?130, Sony charge about ?150 so the place in Newcastle looks like the cheapest around here. The ylod fix involves stripping the system down to the motherboard so it's not an easy one really

For ?20 diff isn't it better Sony do it?? Confused

just woundering and this question has been bugging my mind for a while now, also i'm trying to be greedy either. will there might a replaceent or someone will lend me a ps3. See the thing is, I already had my ps3 before (with sony) and the guy who deliverd the ps3 replacement said ''this isa the only time it'll be replaced''
Unless saomeone is rich and kind enough to pay for the repairs, don't worry, I'll pay back.

Also, there might be a problem with the disk tray and stick duo thingy. :inno:

I'm heading into town on friday so I'll see if I can find out how much it is in the market to get fixed, having picked up a cheap 60GB model on ebay with this error, there is a place in newcasle that does the ylod fix for ?70 but I aint sure if that'll be less than the market or not this is the site for the place in newcastle

Aye.

As GaTCHa says, I'm happy to have a look at it and try a few of the suggested fixes, but I provide no guarantee of success -- my knowledge of PlayStation internals stops at the original PS2, and with each generation they get harder to fix without specialised gear.

It's a risky thing to do.

You'd be better spending a good portion of time researching and maybe attempting the refit with a friend - maybe even club associate at the next meet. Mat and Hawq seem switched on to it and I'm sure would help.

Limit the 'cooks' though....

I've seen some tutorials online but they involve taking it apart so you may not be comfortable with that

Have you tried the "download system software and put it on USB stick, remove PS3 HD and format it on PC, put the HD back in the PS3 and if it turns on then plug the USB stick in" trick?

If that doesn't work, it could be that the GPU or CPU have come unseated due to overheating -- this is fixable but it's fiddly and can do more harm than good so I won't describe the process unless you're desperate. Crying or Very sad

Beyond that it's impossible to tell as the YLOD just means "generic hardware failure"; if the PS3 detects anything amiss during startup it immediately shuts down to prevent potential further damage, and gives no clue as to what it is that's gone wrong.

There's a stall in the market in Crewe town centre that I'm pretty sure does repairs (it's immediately in front of you if you go in through the door opposite the library, but it's only open on Mon, Wed and Fri). No idea how much they charge or where they send them, but it's a place to start.

I don't own a PS3 -- Sony are EVIL -- but I've had enough experience fixing other consoles to have learned that they can be a real pain. Opening them up and trying to fix the beasts is unwise unless it's a simple fault or an easily swapped part; you know what you're doing and have access to service manuals, the required tools, test equipment, etc.; or don't mind if you completely banjax it...
